Wedding planning priorities

27th October 2015
I'm quite into my stats, but use them to help plan our advertising, find out where we need to tweak our service and the likes.
Once we've shot someone's wedding, a few months after, we send out a survey asking various questions. All geared to ensure we are offering the best service possible at every stage of the wedding process... from planning right the way through to album delivery.

A part of the questionnaire is asking the couple to list the 7 most important things of their wedding day, in the priority that they booked them, in other words, what was most important to them.

Every year I do this I scan the results and hope to be able to say that Photography is top of the list... Yay ! But, I'm afraid that's not the case. Some couples do actually say Photography (or the chosen photographer) was their number one priority, but the average every year puts Photography 3rd.

We've been a good steady third in the 3 years I've been analysing these stats.
I don't mind sharing these stats I dare say different photographers (or anyone from any wedding supplier type) may get different results... but from the couples that have booked us these are those results.
It helps us to see where we should advertise for example. We should be going round our favourite venues looking to have our name mentioned when couples visit to book the venue, but there would be little reward in us advertising with a Cake maker for example, as the stats show they are booked way after the photography.

The stats here might well help couples in the planning stage of a wedding, as they can see who is going to be booked out early on. Our average lead time - from booking to wedding day is 16 months.

We still have enquiries coming in for what's left of 2015, some for 2016, but most now are 2017. It's probably only a matter of 6-10 weeks before we're getting 2018 enquiries.

It's interesting to see that from the feedback we've received from this year's couples so far, that "Type of Wedding Ceremony" has jumped up the charts from 4th or 5th to 2nd - knocking "Dress" off second place down below Photography (Yay Photography!).
I think this will tie in with the number of unique wedding ceremonies we are seeing these days - with an ever growing number of Humanist style ceremonies for example.

There were a few single figure votes for things like "Rings", "Catering" and "Invites" but not enough to register on our all important polls :)

So here are the all important (well maybe) stats for the last 3 years.
Our goal will be to have our service so special that one year when I report back - we are top of the pops !
