Sam & Greig's wedding at Edinburgh's Dalmahoy

22nd July 2015
For a change , I'm not going to start this wedding Blog talking about the weather. There's no need anyway, because as per usual, it was a great day with bags of sunshine... instead we'll start of by talking about another small coincidence.
There are certain venues that I only seem to shoot wedding photography at that would fall into the "seldom there" category. I have to go where the bookings take me.
I sometimes get venue managers saying nice stuff like "we must try get you more weddings here." but if I'm booked somewhere else what can you do.
Anyway, I tend to shoot at Dalmahoy about once a year. This wedding with the lovely Sam & Greig was - as you can see on the 18th July, last year was the 12th, close enough. I thought that was quite weird how often that happens to us. Then I looked at our 2016 diary - which is almost full , and guess what... 9th July ... Dalmahoy !
The fickle finger of fate ? Who knows... I just like stuff like that.

Aaaaaaanyway. Sam & Greig's wedding.
It was always going to be a good day. You sometimes just get a feeling when you meet a couple , or do the pre-wedding shoot that the wedding is just going to go really well.

Sam & Greig just lapped up their day, I can't think of one moment when either of them wasn't smiling.

Annie & I shot about all day from about 10:30 in the morning through to 8:30 at night grabbing the day by it's photographic scruff of the neck and clocking up the photos we'd planned to shoot with our happy couple.
Annie was on video clip duty , and holding the big flash guns, and I did the stills.

Wedding photography is always a slow burner gig, the first few hours in the morning go fairly easily and slow as everyone from make-up artists, hairdressers, florists, venue staff et al , prepare for the day ahead and start to wind things along.
Then ceremony time creeps up on you and before you know it it's BANG the actual wedding... BANG group shots... BANG Bride & Groom portraits and some alone time... BANG wedding breakfast... and then into the evening.
This wedding seemed very whirlwind, and certain parts of the UK did indeed have whirlwinds & hurricanes, but not us :)

Sam & Greig worked well for their photos, without spending too long away from their guests, and all too soon the day for us was over. At about 9pm, Annie (assistant, bag carrier, videographer & daughter) were in the car heading along Dalmahoy's drive wondering where the day had went.

The sign of a good wedding.

So here's to the new Mr & Mrs Haynes ! xx

The video slideshow is above, some samples below, and the full portfolio is in the Gallery Section now. You'll need the password from Sam & Greig to view them all , and if you like - order copies.

Oh... and an apology, to the lovely couple that asked for a business card for your wedding in 2017, very sorry , couldn't find you at the end of the night. Drop me a line please. I was trying out my new polo shirts - and I usually have my cards in my shirt top pocket :/
