Nicola & Chris's wedding in Mid Calder & The Dalmahoy

10th September 2015
What a happy smiley day !
That's how I would quickly sum up this wedding.
Nicola & Chris had said they didn't want too many posed up photos, as they preferred to just cuddle up, have a laugh and enjoy the day... so for the most part we let that happen.
But it's easy to see, that at every stage of the day there were smiles all round, laughing and just enjoyment of this happy couples day.

After a brief session with the lassies and lads at Edinburgh's Dalmahoy, we all headed in 3 separate stages to the Kirk of Calder in Mid Calder for the ceremony.
That was lovely. Myself & the videographer - I know , it's rare at our weddings - were allowed free access to film so long as we didn't interrupt proceedings, but we both stayed out the way while getting the shots.... then we were out to a blizzard of confetti before being whisked back to The Dalmahoy where Master of Ceremonies John made sure everything was running to plan.

We had a good laugh doing the family shots, with young Noah "helping" me before we did a very short bride & groom session as the sun was out with perfect timing.
There was some hi-jinks with the golf buggy, all can be seen in the photos and the video I'm sure, but all good fun.

It's amazing how quickly time goes when you think you have plenty of it, as we had about an hour to use up for photos, but almost all of that was spent trying to find the missing guest or bridesmaid that we needed, and all too fast it was call in time for the speeches.
And as an added bonus... Nicola had a speech to make.
Even though she announced at the start she thought it was the worst decision ever , she managed just fine :)

I've said often enough that it's a great honour to be at someone's wedding, but it's true. Being there as a paid professional or as a guest, you are let into someone's lives and you get to find some amazing stories of friendship & love.
This wedding was like that. Not just the Saturday of the wedding, but on my first encounter with Nicola & Chris a few years back in our studio and at their friends' wedding (hi V&A), through all our email chats, the pre-wedding shoot THEN the big day.
The story around Nicola & Chris is a very strong and deep story of love between them and all their friends.
During the speeches it's all reminded of when people give heart felt tales of their friends & loved ones.
It really is like a small bonus, for a short while to be in that circle of trust & friendship.

Anyway, less of the soppy stuff... after dinner, we did manage to round up all the bridesmaids for some fun shots before MoC John came chasing after us to prepare for the evening reception.
Cake cutting... 1st dancing.... then as usual , I set up my lights outside to get one last small bride & groom session, but by this time the band - the brilliant "Cut The Cake" started a ceilidh section of dancing and I watched for 15 minutes as Nicola & Chris whizzed around the packed dance floor.
There was no way I was getting them off there in a hurry :)

So the night ended for me with the sight of guests Dashing White Sergeanting around the floor... (is sergeanting a word ? It is now.)

Big thanks to Nicola & Chris for having me at their big day, it was a thrill and an honour.
The slideshow is above ^^^ and the full portfolio is in our Gallery section now.

You'll need the password from Nicola & Chris to view them all.

In the meantime, please leave a comment below if you were at the wedding... what did you enjoy most... or are you just browsing the photos ? Either way feel free to write a few word to tell us what you think.
