Maricica & Jason's wedding in Edinburgh

31st March 2016
Edinburgh's Canongate Kirk was the venue for the wedding of Maricica & Jason, a lovely old church which has hosted Royalty on occasion.
But before we got to go there, myself and sidekick Annie had to run along the city by-pass to the Edinburgh Capital Hotel where the two families were getting ready.
This extra piece of logistics really made us get our notebooks out to plan the best way to cover prep, get through Easter weekend town city traffic and be able to be parked up in time for the ceremony starting, then shift the car again safely after the ceremony, when we got to the reception venue.

It meant we lost a lot of valuable shooting time during the morning session, which is a shame, but it's just one of those things that happens on multi-location weddings.

The girls were all in high spirits when we got there, and we even managed to grab the guys in the final throws of dressing up. The girls were all still at the hair & make-up stage when we had to leave to scarper to the church.

Once there though, things slowed down a bit, and we relaxed with Jason and his best man/brother watching the rain drip down. Not heavy, but enough to shift us to plan B for the family photos afterwards.

After a lovely ceremony the new Mr & Mrs Robertson got their big walk down the aisle together, before we ushered them back up to the front of the church for a small set of family pictures.

I could see that we were going to get the odd break in the rain outside, so we arranged for the wedding car to take Maricica & Jason around Arthurs Seat, Holyrood Park and we very quickly set up a light and grabbed a few big dramatic sky pictures.
It would have been easier to just go to the hotel, but I didn't want to miss that one opportunity to give them something special and it was worth the effort.
Annie helped me put out a sheet for the dress to keep dry and set up a big flash, then we got the happy couple out the car for a few minutes of posing.
It couldn't be much more than that though, as the Park Police drove up and asked us to move on. Being a one-way system, I knew we had a good 15 minutes before they could get round again to make sure we were away, so we took full advantage :)

Then is was off to next venue, the MacDonald Holyrood Hotel for the afternoon & evening entertainment.
Here we spent all afternoon doing every family group that could be thrown our way for a photo. It's not the usual way we do things as it meant no time at all for any extra relaxed bride & groom shots that we had talked about - sometimes it's those photos that make couples book us, but the families had a ball , and everyone seemed to have a good day.
That's all that matters.

So Jason & Maricica... still both Robertson's but one family now...
The main slideshow is above, and a few other photos below.

The full portfolio of around 460 photos (I know - mad eh ?!) is in our Gallery Section now. You'll need the password from Maricica & Jason to get access, but once in you can view the whole set and even order copied at the click of a button.

And for anyone who checks the blog for the tech/gear details... all that stuff is at the end of the Blog here.

**Annie's edit... my bit on the Blog...
Another enjoyable day with a fun and enthusiastic couple that were fine with braving the cold, damp weather for a wee bit for me and dad to get some drama into the park photos. But roll on summer time brrrr.
I had a laugh in the morning with the, eh, colourful language from the bridesmaids while they were getting ready. Dinner was great - thanks Maricica & Jason :))
I didn't get so much free time to shoot on my own at this wedding. It's just the way it goes sometimes when the assistant is needed more to - well - assist , more than just take photos. But job done , great couple.x

Congrats to Maricica & Jason, a great couple and totally fun to be around !
