Katie & Tom's wedding in Italy

12th August 2016
I could write a small book on the exploits of how this destination wedding photography gig came about... and the National Lampoons style journey we created getting there.
But that's all for another day, or telling you over a gin and tonic one night.

But the short version of the booking was another night where fate came calling. We'd been talking about doing European destination weddings for a while, and one October night in Bridlington on a scooter rally of all places, conversation touched on scooter buddy Bob's son getting married in Italy... with ears pricked up (as best they could at the late hours in our B&B).

Fast forward 2 years almost, and here we are... with a trip to Italy done, and a totally fabby wedding with Katie & Tom shot by the full GWS team.

The wedding itself was taking place at Villa Baroncino in Tuscany (Perugia), and myself, usual assistant Annie, and this time wife Ali headed over for 3 nights with airline carry on bags only. We were set on doing this fast, light & efficient, whilst still shooting it exactly as we would a standard UK wedding... and we did save for lighting stands. But that was one of Ali's jobs... standing holding the light up :)
She did very well.

It was as hot as expected, and I scruffied up to be honest. I must buy smarter shorts for next time, but we pressed on, and darted about in the 30 odd degree heat as per normal.
The wedding was beautiful, as you can imagine, set in gorgeous Italian countryside, and staff ran very well by owner Marco.
Things ticked along like clockwork, and we fitted our photography into whatever plans Katie, Tom & Marco had set up.
After dinner, and a few more beautiful photos, we were treated to a very special cake cutting... to see everyone joining in was brilliant, so we left a touch of the soundtrack in the slideshow.

All the friends & family that were there had a ball, it's always special to be at anyone's wedding, but when you get a crew of friends & family who obviously have went that extra mile for the couple (well 1400 odd extra miles) you know you are in for a really good party , and an extra special wedding.

We'd have loved to have stayed right to the end, but with our interesting journey out , not long after 10:30pm we jumped back in our hire car and I got the girls back to our truck stop hotel. Adrenalin is a great thing when you're working at a wedding for such a long day darting from place to place, but the girls haven't quite got the hang of that though, and I could see they had ran out of juice.

We got back to the digs, flew back next day and prepared to process the wedding.

I can't stress enough how much we enjoyed this wedding, not because of the travel (that would put some people off) but the extra helping of love from all of Katie & Tom's friends & family just made it really special.
It was great to be around everyone for this special occasion.

So the slideshow highlights is here... and the full portfolio is live now.
Nip over here and have a look-see....

Please leave a wee comment below, tell us what you thought of the wedding and the occasion. Would you get married abroad ?
Drop us a line anyway and tell Katie & Tom how much you enjoyed their wedding !

This wedding was shot on two Fujifilm X-Pro2's, with 23mm and 56mm lenses , and a Fujifilm X-T1 with 16-55mm lens.
The small mirrorless Fuji cameras were excellent for travel wedding photography being so small and light.
We took our ever faithfull Lencarta Atom 360 light too to use for flash on the dramatic sky shots, and a ThetaS for the pano shots.
