Amy & Alasdair's wedding in Dundee

03rd November 2016
A trip up to Dundee on Saturday 22nd of October to visit the fabulous Malmaison, a great wedding venue with wonderful, luxurious insides - which puts it into my category of great weather-proof wedding venues - which was just as well as it was kinda dreich all day.

So I get set up, drop all my gear off in the main function room and head up the stairs to see Amy & the girls. There were a lot of stairs, and they came in handy for lots of photos throughout the day... with the big photo of everyone, some group shots and some nice pics of Amy & Alasdair on their own.

Because it was an all inside wedding, from the ceremony on it was very fast & noisy for the full day with all the guests having a great day out.
There was a nice moment after we'd run up and down the stairs with all the guests, then did some family group shots, then did some nice pics of our bride and groom when they just stopped on the floor above the wedding reception and they sat beside each other on the stairs for a few minutes peace on their own.

Amy & Alasdair aren't a couple that would be first to volunteer for a photo shoot, but from the pre-shoot, it was clear that given the right moment they can pose together, and look amazing together if you just leave them together.

It was like that for the wedding, you'll not see a lot of kissy photos or staring into each other's eyes, but you'll see lots of small touches, glances, heads dipped together.

We sort of finished off with a small photo shoot back at the top of the hotel in their tower suite, and me with them, then me running down the stairs / lift to get the shot from outside.
Just playing to the strengths of where we were on the day really.

Technically, it was a slightly challenging day with all the rooms being fairly low lit, and not wanting ti spoil the gorgeous ambience I didn't want to throw flash everywhere at all times, so a carefull selection of camera & lens choice, high ISO and various lighting techniques got us the desired photos.
At some point though there were all kinds of gear used, an Ice Light to put a rim light around Amy for the shots in the oval window late on, the Lowel GL-1 to put spot lights on at various times (and used to signal when they were up in the tower suite window, and I was outside in the car park)... but all in a days work.

A nice day out that I enjoyed and was needing after a personal trauma threw my life a curve ball, but being around happy & lovely people at good times like this makes life good.

Here's to Amy & Alasdair - a lovely couple and another fabby wedding !
