A genuinely sad day. In memory of Staci.

06th October 2016
I spent an hour in Edinburgh this morning with a crowd of people I've never met before, just like I do at every wedding.
I also watched on as close friends & loved ones hugged each other... but today wasn't a happy day of a wedding, it was the funeral of Staci Turner.
A young girl who missed her wedding by a week after cancer got a hold and caused complications.

Stacey & fiance Lee came to see me in our old shop in August to chat about their wedding photography, then we met again in September at the beautiful venue of the Mansfield Traquair in Edinburgh to go over a few other things.
Despite being critically ill Staci was a joy to be around and her happiness about her up coming wedding was so uplifting.
But tragically I wasn't to see her again.

I met Lee today briefly as he courageously went around almost everybody from a huge crowd of friends & family and shook everyone's hand. I don't think he has any idea how brave and gentlemanly he is.

I watched him for a while as lots of people files passed the family, then he went from person to person, group to group having a quick chat with everyone.

We shook hands and I offered my little bit of encouragement for him to be brave, but I know he doesn't need anyone to tell him to be strong, or to keep his chin up.
The stories I heard as I stood outside with the other people that couldn't fit inside were funny , and also heart breaking. The world has lost a real gem of a young girl who should be an inspiration to everyone.
It was noted how up to the end she left notes for Lee to be happy and how much he was appreciated, and she passed with Lee holding her hand.

I looked around at all the faces with tears in their eyes, and reflected on how with a change of circumstances I'd still be amongst those same people last Saturday at Staci & Lee's wedding.

Heart wrenching too for Jacqueline & George , Staci's mum & dad. I've seen the torment of a parent losing a child before and it's not something anyone should have to go through.

I wish we all could have met at the wedding and let Staci have her big day, but from what I heard, she has left after filling up the world with love, and she will never be forgotten.

Through a network of friends & family, I am pleased I got the chance to almost shoot Staci & Lee's wedding, and to have met such a lovely couple.
