2 photos through to final stage of UK Master Photographer awards

04th October 2016
I'm more than thrilled to have two of my entries through to the last round of judging for the UK Master Photographers Association annual competition.
It's the first year I've entered, and to have two photos with at least a merit award gives me a bit of smile.

The photos are of completely different subjects...
A beautiful photo of Claire at her wedding at Broxmouth, half posed half natural. It was the moments before the ceremony and I took her to the window and asked her to just stand and look out, and let her fall into a natural, beautiful stance.

The other is a street photography shot. This is my new wind down hobby. I used to go and do landscape photography, or night time scenes, but I felt I had covered as much of that for the time being as I could so now I just love to wander around Edinburgh whenever I get a day off... so about once every 6 months and shoot the people there.
This day was a bit more special, it was the Sunday after Hibs had won the Scottish Cup - or as I remember it, the day after Clair & Stephen's wedding :) and I wanted to get a photo of the crowd outside my Grandad's old flat on Leith Walk... where I stood back in 1972 and got a wave from Pat Stanton as the Hibs team went past with the League Cup.
It turned out that day though, that was where all the party animals were and I got soaked in beer... but the plus side being the crowd photos were quite cool.
This selected Merit award photo kind of sums up the atmosphere with fans of all ages still partying hard.

I must add a Gallery of my favourite street photography pics up soon.

So 2016 has been a thrilling year with hard work we've put is paying off in many ways.
With the Master Photographers Association I won 2 categories with the Scottish Region...

Scottish MPA Reportage Wedding Photograph of the Year

Scottish MPA Open Category Photograph of the Year

And a Merit in the Black & White Category.

And now two merits in the national finals.
